Pop culture humor, bad language, feminism, internet speak, cats and unicorns all serve as inspiration for the woman behind Bang-Up Betty. Stacey is her name. Betty is her cat. Bang-Up Betty’s designs make you smile, laugh, and maybe even blush a little.
This first necklace is a motto of mine in this Facebook world we live in. It’s essential to good health and low blood pressure. The Shrug necklace is just plain adorable and something I’ve never seen before. And who doesn’t love pizza and snacks. Enough said.

How did your business get started?
I’ve been making jewelry since I was about 12 years old, but it didn’t become a business until 2013, when I taught myself how to stamp so I could make irreverent jewelry as holiday gifts. People really liked what I was making, so I kept making it. And over time it has grown and grown and grown into what it is now.
What does a typical day look like?
I actually work full-time doing communications for a local nonprofit, and nights and weekends I’m hammering out new orders and designs. I think I’m pretty unique in my business, because I pretty much do everything when it comes to Bang-Up Betty. I’m the designer, buyer, photographer, web designer, writer, customer service manager, sales manager, marketer, social media manager, finance manager, display creator… any little thing you can name, I probably do.
What are your favorite pieces and/or bestsellers?
My Smash the Patriarchy Necklace is definitely a top seller; I just shipped 18 of those to be part of someone’s wedding, and I couldn’t be more proud of that. My Nope Middle Finger Necklace is probably what I’m best known for because it was included in Bust Magazine, but several of my designs, including my Shit Show Necklace and I Slay Neckalce, have made it to Buzzfeed, PopSugar, Bustle and other fun, fancy websites.
Least favorite part of the business?
MATH. Sorry to sound like a cliche artist, but anything involving math makes me want to run screaming into the woods. Do not make me figure out sales tax without a calculator.
Making people laugh. I can be having the worst day, and someone will walk by my booth at a craft show and cackle at something and I can’t help but smile. It makes all the stress worth it. And I have met so many incredible people who have been inspired or influenced by a piece of my jewelry and have felt compelled to share their stories with me.
