4 Shoe Trends for Spring 2017

The weather in the Midwest has been all over the place, and it’s giving me spring fever!  I’m not quite ready to put my booties away for the season, but I’m loving all of the new spring shoes that are popping up in my favorite stores.  According to Stitch Fix, these are the top 4 shoe trends for spring.  Click on each shoe to see all of the color options!

Block Heel

I’m so happy to see block heels are on trend this season!  I’ll admit that I wore them even when they weren’t cool, and my feet rejoiced.  These would look adorable with some cropped pants and a pretty spring sweater or with your favorite sundress.  The good news is that heel height doesn’t matter!  Whether you like sensible 2″ heels or more adventurous 4″ heels, you’ll be right in style.

Lace-Up Flats

Flats have always been my favorite.  Just take a peek in my closet and you will see all kind of styles, but I just realized today that I don’t own any lace-up flats.  That will have to change this season.  These ballet-inspired shoes accentuate the ankles with the lace-up details and are perfect with nearly any outfit.  I found them in a variety of colors as well as pointy and rounded toe styles.  Whether you want a little or a lot of shoelace, these are an easy (and comfy!) way to update your shoe wardrobe.

Heeled Sandals

Heeled sandals feel so prim and proper to me.   I love the new details like lace and intricate straps that are adding a bit of modern style to a traditional shoe.  If traditional is your look, you can find plenty of simple styles, too.  I also found lots of fun colors that add a new twist to an old favorite.  This is the perfect party shoe when you need to look classy, but still want to show your personality.

Modern Mules

Mules.  This is the only shoe trend I’m having a difficult time with.   When I hear mule, I think of Crocs.  Not that I don’t love Crocs (yes, I have a pair), but they don’t fall into the stylish category for me.  After seeing how designers are making this trend modern, I might have to give it another chance.  I especially LOVE the last shoe on the far right above.   The three straps really do it for me.  I love that it has the feeling of a sandal without requiring a pedicure.  Sold.

What style are you excited to add to your closet?

LuLaRoe Irma – What size should you buy?

Image result for lularoe logoLuLaRoe.  By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of this brand most famously known for it’s buttery soft leggings.  Even if you’re not a leggings girl (like me), LuLaRoe has cute tops, skirts, and dresses also made from ridiculously soft fabric in a variety of flattering styles.

One of the reasons I was hesitant to try LuLaRoe was the sizing.  The sizes are all over the place and not consistent between styles.  You might get advice to size up or size down depending on the style.  This turned me away at first – until I realized that I am actually able to wear 2-4 sizes in each style, depending on what look I’m going for.

Say what!?

This means that even if you find your unicorn print (defined:  highly sought after to the point of obsession) in the wrong size, you still might be able to make it work.  This size 8/medium girl can wear anywhere from an XXS-XL depending on the style.  Confusing, I know, but I’m here to help with that.

Today, we’re going to talk about the Irma.  Irma is a high-low tunic with fitted elbow length sleeves.  There’s extra coverage in back which makes this top perfect for hiding your assets.  If you’re into leggings, the right size Irma can be a good compliment for them.  I have a longer than normal torso, so I’ve found that Irma’s don’t give me the coverage I need for leggings.  But they might be perfect for you.  I love my Irma’s with skinny jeans.  They also make a great layering piece under long, chunky sweaters (aka the only thing I like about winter).

LuLaRoe Irma Sizing

For size reference, I’m 5’8″ and a size medium/8.

My first-ever Irma was an XXS.  You might remember it from this post where I tried out 5 different LuLaRoe styles courtesy of the lovely Karinne Culley.  (Hop on over here to learn more about LuLaRoe & Karinne!)  I’ve never worn an XXS in my life, so I was unsure about this one when I saw that tag.  After I tried it on, I realized that what they said was true – you should size down 2-3 sizes in Irma.  Listen to the experts!  The XXS is a little tight in the arms, but the sleeves loosen up as the day goes on.  The more fitted silhouette is great for jeans and not too long in the front or back.

XS is my preferred size in Irma.  The arms fit just right, the length is good, and I have a little extra breathing room.  The small Irma gets a little looser on my bulging biceps (thank you, Fitness Blender!) and has a slouchier fit.  It’s on the verge of being more tent-ish, but not so bad that it offends me.  I really love the two tone yellow & gray on this one, so I can make it work.  This one would also be cute knotted with a maxi skirt or even over a dress.  I love making dresses look like skirts.   It’s like a little hobby of mine.  (Kidding.  Kind of.)

Last up is the size medium (my normal size), which is the largest size I would buy in an Irma.  The medium Irma is much looser in the arms and feels a little sloppy to me.  If my to-die-for-unicorn print were available only in a medium, I would still buy it, but I would have to get creative with knotting and tying to make it more flattering on me.  There’s a big difference in the back length from the small to medium – at least on me – as you can see in the photo.  It’s comfy for sure, but it feels a little big on my frame.

So, based on my *extensive* research, it’s safe to say that you can (and should) size down at least 2 sizes in Irma.  Some may be able to size down 3 sizes or just size down 1 for a looser fit.  It all depends on your preferences.  I wouldn’t recommend buying your regular size in an Irma unless you really want a loose & slouchy fit, or it’s the print that haunts your dreams.  If you’re still unsure, you can always find a consultant in your area and attend a pop-up event.  Then you can try on several sizes to determine the right fit for you and you won’t have to pay shipping.  Score!

{Trendsday Wednesday} 18 Tops to Wear With Leggings

*This post contains affiliate links.  If you see something you love, please shop via my links and help support this little blog of mine.  Thanks!

Leggings. They can be great when you pick the right top, but they can be so very wrong if you don’t.

In my own closet, I have a few pairs of printed leggings (via LuLaRoe and Agnes & Dora), but the ones I wear all the time are solid black. Since my legs are my least favorite feature, I prefer to go bold on top. It’s really a personal preference. No matter what your choice, you should always choose a top that’s long enough to cover your lady parts. There is NO exception to this rule.

I’m on the tall side, so finding shirts that are the right length can be challenging. A few of my favorite tops to wear with leggings are actually dresses that are just a little too short. The junior’s section is a good place to look. I’ve found really cute and inexpensive pieces this way. I might have to size up a few sizes, but I can handle that if the cuteness factor is high enough.

I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite tunics/dresses/tops that cover your booty that would be perfect to wear with leggings. I always feel like I’m wearing my favorite pajamas when I’m wearing leggings, but I look so much more together than that. Which one do you love?

These are a few of my favorite things….

*This post contains affiliate links.  If you see something you love, please purchase via my links to help support my blog.  You rock!

Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite things.  These are the items that work overtime in my closet.  Some things I’ve been loyal to forever, others are new favorites, but all are well loved.  Before I made this list, I didn’t realize that the hardest working pieces in my wardrobe are actually some of the cheapest, too.  We’re talking PENNIES per wear.  PENNIES.  Everything on this list is under $30!

1.  Mossimo Long & Lean Tanks are a must have for layering.  They are the perfect length and have great stretch.  I size up in these to a large (I’m typically an 8/medium)  I have these tanks in so many colors – it’s kind of embarrassing.  I would count them, but I’m kind of afraid to.  Not gonna lie.  Be sure to watch Target’s ad because they put these on buy one get one 50% off sale quite a bit.

2.  Oh, how I LOVE my Liz Claiborne boyfriend jeans.  My 20 year old self never would have set foot in the LC section, but I’m telling you these boyfriend jeans are my favorites!  In fact, I’m wearing them right now.  These look great cuffed with booties, flats, & sneakers or with graphic tees, sweaters, blouses, etc, etc.  They are really versatile & a great price.  And you can probably size down!  That always makes me happy 🙂

3.  If you didn’t already know, I’m a yellow lover.  These mustard yellow Chucks are the shoes I reach for at least once a week.  The color is surprisingly versatile and adds a fun, unexpected pop to any outfit.  If yellow isn’t your thing, you still need a pair of Chucks.  I own 4 pairs and love them all, but the mustard ones are definitely my faves.

4.  Converse also makes these wonderful socks that are made just for wearing with your Chucks.  I love the no sock look, but can’t handle the no sock feel.  Sometimes these will peak out of your Chucks, so make sure you get a coordinating or neutral color.  I also love wearing these with my booties when I cuff my jeans.  I hate looking down and seeing the top of my socks and these disappear into my booties, but still feel great.

5.  Downeast Basics makes the perfect cap sleeve layering tee.  A lot of boutiques sell these, but you can also find them in all kinds of colors and patterns at downeastbasics.com.  These are perfect under sweaters, cardigans, or even on their own.  I have a ridiculous amount of these tops, too.  If you watch the Downeast website, you can get some amazing sales prices on these.  That’s when I stock up.  Right now, you can get $10 off $50+ purchase until 11/23.  I own the Wonder Tee, Essential Tee, and Classic Tee and love them all.  I size up to a large.

6.  A mesh band watch has been on my wishlist for awhile.  I was about to give in and splurge on a more expensive brand when I found this lovely rose gold Target version for $20!  Huge, huge savings.  I wear this almost daily and it looks great as part of a bracelet stack.  Grab one of these while you still can!

7.  My face feels naked without mascara.  I used to buy the cheapest brand at the drugstore, but then I tried a sample of this Clinique Lash Power Mascara and now I am hooked.  It is long lasting and gives me just the right amount of oomph to look awake when I may not be.  Most days, this mascara is the only make-up I have on, and I still feel put together.  Love it.

8. Here’s another new favorite from Target.  These cocoon cardigans by Merona come in lots of colors and make a great layering piece.  They are nice and light, too, so they will be great once spring finally gets here again.  Right now, these cardis are buy one, get one 50% off, so you need to put two in your cart for sure.  I bought this in mustard (SHOCKER!) and a dark plum.  I sized up to an XL in these because I like a little extra room, but the medium and large fit, too.  Maybe I ate too many cookies or lifted too many weights the day I tried these on.  Who knows.

9.  Goody Stay Put headbands do exactly what the package says they will do.  I’ve tried other brands that may be a little cuter, but I always go back to these Goody basics.  I like that these blend with my dark hair. I never have to readjust during my workout, so I never miss a rep.  Win.

That’s all I have for today.  What are some of your must have items?  I would love to know!

{LuLaRoe with Karinne Culley} How to Style an Amelia Dress

*This post contains affiliate links.  If you see something you like, please click through to support my blog.  You rock!

Back in September, I featured LuLaRoe with Karinne Culley and she’s back again today!  I wanted to show you some more ways to accessorize and style this lovely Amelia dress.  When I started this post, I only planned on creating 3 looks.  After I started playing with this dress, that number doubled easily.  Amelia is super versatile and looks great on all body types!

Disclaimer:  I know there are all kinds of LuLa Hacks all over Pinterest, but I wanted to keep Amelia pure.  No wearing it backwards for me – I tried, but it really didn’t look that great in real life.  This is Amelia in her natural form with a variety of accessories and layering pieces – many of which I’m sure you already have in your closet.  Let’s get to it!Amelia $65

I love the Amelia because of the pockets and the zipper back which adds a little edge to an otherwise sweet dress.  I didn’t realize how versatile this dress would be!  I just assumed it would be hard to style because of the print, but I was wrong.  Oh, so wrong.  Just imagine the endless possibilities if you were to buy this dress in black or any other solid color.  My mind is blown.  For size reference, I’m an 8.  The medium fits well and I even have a little room.  I’m guessing the small would be a good fit, too.  This is how I styled her back in September.

Amelia $65

This is how I’ll be wearing her this winter.

1.  I decided to layer a semi-fitted sweater on top of Amelia.  I added the scarf to cover up the fact that the necklines didn’t perfectly match up (and because I love scarves).  This particular sweater came from Nordstrom Rack and has a red stripe down the side that perfectly matches this dress.  It’s like they were made for each other.
Similar pieces:  Sweater (lots of colors!), Scarf, Booties (lots of colors!)

2.  This outfit is so cozy.  I love a denim shirt knotted and worn over a dress.  I styled the LuLaRoe Carly a similar way back in September.  This mustard scarf is a great piece to have in your accessory closet, too.  Mustard is a actually a very versatile color (and one of my faves!)
Similar pieces:  Shirt, Scarf, Leggings, Boots

3.  I picked up this cute little Cabi cropped sweatshirt jacket at my favorite thrift store a few weeks ago and knew it would be perfect with this dress.  Add a chunky necklace & a stretchy belt and you’re good to go.
Similar pieces:  Jacket, Necklace, Booties, Belt

4.  This surplice sweater that I picked up last year at TJ Maxx is another way to dress Amelia down.  You could easily add a scarf or chunky necklace to this look, too.  That v-neck is just begging for some bold accessories.
Similar pieces:  Sweater, Leggings, Boots

5.  I added a flouncy brown skirt that I’ve owned for years underneath Amelia to give her a little extra length.  Add in a cute (faux) leather jacket and scarf for a complete look.  I’m not completely in love with this scarf with this outfit – just working with what I have!  You get the idea.
Similar pieces:  Jacket, Scarf (lots of colors!), Skirt, Booties (lots of colors!)

6.  I’ve had this adorable little trench coat with laser cut detailing at the bottom for a few years, but I really haven’t worn it that much.  But I can’t bring myself to get rid of it either.  I absolutely love it with the Amelia peeking out from the bottom.
Similar pieces:  Coat, Booties (lots of colors!)

You are all invited!  I am hosting a LuLaRoe Facebook party on December 8 with Karinne that you won’t want to miss.  Karinne always has special pricing on certain styles during her parties and a roll call giveaway!  If you to join the party, just join Karinne’s group and mark your calendar for December 8.  I’ll post a reminder as the date gets closer.

Today I’m doing my first product review and sharing my face with you.  Get excited, I know!

PBJ Boutique

PB&J Boutique sent me this beautiful maxi dress to review.  I was beyond excited to receive it.  And then I realized I would have to take pictures.  Of myself.  And post them on the internet.  But this dress is totally worth it, so here it goes.

This maxi is made by one of my favorite brands, Mystree, which I discovered via the lovely Julie at TAG Online Boutique.  I was thrilled to find out that PB&J Boutique sells a large selection of Mystree products.  This navy striped dress did not disappoint.  The neckline is accented by gray and white piping with a matching drawstring waist.  I decided to keep the styling simple with a pop of yellow and some floral, which you know are two of my absolute favorites if you’ve read my other posts.  This combo makes my eyes happy.pbjdress-styled
