One day, I stumbled upon Agnes & Dora via Facebook. The two-toned Dolman tunics caught my eye, and I had to have one. In fact, all of the styles looked so perfect – fitted in all the right places, flowy where flowy is needed, and all made in very wearable prints, patterns, and solids. You can purchase A&D directly via the company website or by contacting a consultant. You can also host a party to earn free clothing. Who doesn’t love free clothing!? Tara Lynn is an Agnes & Dora representative in Illinois. I chatted with her to learn a little more about her business and why she does what she does.
Why did you start selling Agnes & Dora?
I was previously with another DS company and had been without my own home based business for a couple of years. I really missed the connection I had with women on my team as well as my customers. Agnes & Dora was a perfect fit for me to get back into this line of business. Also, as we were contemplating a move, I felt this could provide additional income for my family while we transitioned and before I sought out work in my field in a new home state.
What makes Agnes & Dora different from other direct sale clothing companies?
I am not familiar with many other DS Clothing Companies as this is the first one I have worked with. I did research between A & D with another similar company and some of the differences were the deciding factor for me as far as choosing my own business. What I like about Agnes & Dora is that as a business owner, I am able to choose the inventory that I carry for Pop-Up Boutiques as well as my Online Parties. As I get to know my customer base, I can tailor what I purchase for my boutique based on their needs, styles, and sizes. I also love the mission and vision of our company. First and foremost, we aim to uplift and inspire women.
What are your favorite styles/best sellers?
When I first started, it was the buttery soft printed leggings that caught my attention. I love them and the comfort is beyond measure. However, I was pleasantly surprised that women were attracted to the entire line. I don’t find one piece having popularity over another outside of the leggings. Everything sells, everything is adored, and there is something for every BODY! Women love our dresses, skirts, tops, and of course our leggings. It is wonderful to carry a line of clothing where all the pieces are someone’s favorite. Some personal favorites of mine are the Austen dress, the pencil skirt, the Love Top and the Swing Tunic!
How much time does it take to be successful in this job? Are you Full or Part Time?
My degree is in Elementary Education. I taught for 19 years and have spent the last few as an Instructional Coach in a large school district. My role as an Instructional Coach is my full time career. I started A & D, not knowing if I would continue as a coach due to a move. We are still living in the Chicagoland area, so I am blessed to continue as a coach. With that said, Agnes & Dora is a part time business for me. However, it is a full time passion. I work tirelessly in both of my careers to be there and present for all the people I work with and for. I work with some of the most amazing teachers, administrators, and students. Many teachers are also my customers! Teachers are the biggest cheerleaders for success! I love my customers and they understand that during the school year, I attend to them after school hours. So, it does take time, it does take hard work, but the rewards are great, just like with teaching! <3
Tara was kind enough to send the four pieces for me to review – the Dolman Tunic, Love Top, Midi Skirt, & the ever-popular leggings. For size reference, I’m typically a size 8 or a medium in most clothes.
First up is the Candyland Dolman Tunic in Gray ($34). This is the top that first grabbed my interest. Anything with a contrasting sleeve grabs my eye. I’m wearing a size small here, and the fit is great. The arms are not too tight, and the length is perfect. I love how it fits loosely in the tummy region, but slims down around my hips for a figure flattering fit. This fabric is incredibly soft. I love it with a scarf or a long necklace. It would also be great under a blazer or cardigan once the weather cools down.
Next, I tried the Love Top in a classic black & ivory stripe. This top will be one of my new go-to looks. Once again, the fit and fabric are perfection. I’m wearing a size small in this style, too. I love how the stripe direction on the sleeves contrasts with the body of the top, giving a seemingly simple tee more visual interest. To me, all neutrals are just begging for some color, so I added the yellow bag. This top would also look great tucked into a skirt. Maybe a floral one for some fun pattern mixing or a solid in a bold color. This is a super versatile top that I will be remixing a lot this fall and winter. It’s a great layering piece.
Next up, we have the When Harry Met Sally Midi Skirt. I’m wearing a medium, but I’m pretty sure I could also wear a small. This is one of those skirts that you can wear many ways – at your natural waist, just under the bust, or even as a top. And it has pockets. POCKETS. My first instinct was to play it safe and pair this with a black top, but I decided to get crazy and do some pattern mixing. I love the tiny stripe pattern with the larger floral. Even though it’s 90 here, I added the leather jacket to toughen up the look. I’m not normally a skirt girl, but this style is changing my mind. It just flows so nicely, the fabric has great stretch, and it feels way more expensive than it is. And don’t forget the pockets. Love.
And last, but not least, the ever popular buttery leggings. I’m wearing a small/medium. Now let me just say that I have been anti-leggings my entire life. I will wear black leggings under a dress, but have never worn them with a tunic. I’ve tried other popular brands, but I always felt so exposed. Ladies, Agnes & Dora has converted me. I LOVE THESE LEGGINGS. Four words that I never thought would come out of my mouth. The material is the softest fabric I’ve ever felt, and it is substantial! I actually feel like these leggings will keep me warm when it’s cold out. And I feel covered. I recently picked up this tunic at Costco (yes, Costco. $14.99), and it’s begging to be paired with more A&D leggings. After I finish typing this, I’m buying more. I think I might be an addict.

And now for the really fun part….
