Stone & Sterling is filled with hand-forged designs in a mix of metals and stones. The earwires and links are created with 18/20 gauge hard wire, making them sturdier than most mass-produced jewelry. In other words – you get what you pay for. From simple to eclectic, there is a design for every taste and budget inside this shop. I chatted with Liz to learn a little more about her and her business.
What motivated you to start an Etsy shop?
I have a passion for artisan jewelry, especially sterling silver. I DON’T like cookie-cutter styles and yearned for my bohemian days in college when it was easy to find original, hand-crafted pieces that drew attention and reflected my personal style. Add that I like to make things + making jewelry became a stress release = If I sell it, I can keep doing this!
How long does it take to make a pair of earrings?
I cut, form, sand, and polish every piece I make, including the earwires. If the piece is intricate, has a stone, and/or requires soldering or other treatments, like patinas, oxidation, etc., then the process is longer. There is no “average” time, but can take as little as 1/2 hour for simple earrings or as much as 1-1.5 hours for more complicated items.
Favorite part of the business?
I love the creative process, from the mental picture, to paper, to the bench, and then, as a finished product in my shop. The real kicker, my ultimate pleasure, is the kind feedback I get from my customers and the interface I have with people all over the world. It still surprises me, but it’s always a pleasure.
